GGUW provides school resources, early literacy support, youth success, senior stability, and basic needs across a 4-county area (Gallatin, Park, Madison, and Meagher). From children to seniors, we are here whenever for whatever our communities need.
As part of its commitment to early literacy, GGUW adopted the DPIL program in 2019 and since then has provided over 85,000 free books to kids in Gallatin and Park Counties. If a child is enrolled at DPIL at birth, they will have a library of 60 books by the time they turn 5. All for FREE!
Just as children learn language skills before speaking, they also form literacy skills long before they're able to read. In fact, children who are read to at least three times a week are almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading. This may sound like a good way for kids to excel, but it's a critical component of early learning in our state. Around 28% of elementary school students in Montana are falling behind in reading. Reading just one book a night to kiddos can ensure they're learning skills are up to speed for their entry to Kindergarten.
