The Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness is traditional lands occupied by Apsáalooke and others for millenniums. The A-B and surrounding lands are more than 1 million acres of public lands bridging the Custer Gallatin and Shoshone National Forests in Montana and Wyoming. With the greatest expanse of alpine tundra in the Lower 48, the highest peaks in Montana, and 25 miles of border with Yellowstone National Park, The A-B is a crown jewel of both the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and the National Wilderness Preservation System.
We pursue our mission through volunteer service, education, and community collaboration. We partner with the U.S. Forest Service and communities to maintain trails, pull invasive weeds, and restore heavily impacted sites; share information on wilderness ethics, regulations, skills, and values; and collect data for land management and research.
Our 2024 summer season includes projects throughout Park County to complete trail restoration, invasive species removal, and flood repair. Projects span the Paradise Valley, stretching from Livingston Peak to Mill Creek and Gardiner Basin to Cooke City. Please visit our website to view a map of our 2024 trail projects.
